The College of Sakhnin for Teacher Education, which was established in 2001, is supervised and financed by the Ministry of Education and run by the Association of Sakhnin College. Amidst the pastoral scenery of the Northern Galilee, the College of Sakhnin attempts to promote a program that prepares students to be exemplary teachers capable of handling the rigors and challenges of our educational system. The College of Sakhnin for Teacher Education was accredited by Malag (The Council for Higher Education) and is thus authorized to grant its students the first degree in Education (B.Ed.) with a teaching certificate; the goal is to provide the field with teachers and educators who have a good background in general knowledge and who are highly aware of their educational and pedagogical duties. The training process is accompanied by a wide array of academic knowledge in the subject matter, education and pedagogy. In addition, it entails reflection, self-criticism and deep perception of the needs of the educational arena. This process also helps the teachers and educators to meet the pedagogical and educational requirements in a way that enables their students to flourish academically, culturally and socially. The College of Sakhnin for Teacher Education trains teachers and kindergarten teachers in the following fields:
1. Early Childhood Education Track: majoring in Arabic and Comprehensive Instruction from kindergarten to 2nd grades.
2. Special Education Track: majoring in Special Education and Comprehensive Instruction from kindergarten to 6th grades.
3. Junior High Track (7th – 10th grades): majoring in English, and Mathematics and Computer Sciences.
Fully aware of the need to promote Arab Education in Israel, the people who initiated the establishment of The College of Sakhnin are committed to maintaining high academic and educational standards which are capable of providing its students with a qualitative and positive climate. In securing such a climate, the College attempts to train professionals who not only have a strong connection to Arab society and culture but also recognize the fundamental educational conceptions within it.
In order to strengthen the ties between the theoretical structure of the College and the field, it has already managed to found a variety of scientific, cultural and community centers. The Supplementary Study Center, for example, offers both teachers and educational institutes a wide spectrum of professional development possibilities; Mataa Center for the development of Arabic, the English Center and Bridges for promotion of co-existence, peace and cooperation between cultures and the Research Center which encourages teachers to be engaged in scientific research, supports their initiatives and finances their research.
The College takes pride in its success in recruiting the best of lecturers who do their utmost to help their students fulfill their professional aspirations and transmit the essential educational values for generations to come. Thanks to the tens of thousands of books, progressive computer programs and advanced Internet services available in the library, the students and teachers are always updated and in touch with most recent scientific research and development.
